Whether you use Final Cut Pro, Premiere, or Resolve, video editing is most likely the most intensive use of your machine's graphics card, CPU, and RAM. Of course, the keyboard isn't really an option: You have to get it if you want to use the Surface Pro 6 as a laptop. So that means you can add an extra $130 minimum to the Surface Pro 6's price tag. I have a fully maxed out 2010 27' iMac and use it primarily for video editing with Avid Media Composer, codecs aside I would HIGHLY recommend getting it. It's such a beast of a machine and for the price beats the hell out of a Mac Pro.

The chances of they using a Mac is way higher than using a Windows-based laptop. That said, Apple’s MacBooks and iMacs are traditionally used for handling high-end graphics tools and are extensively used for image and video processing. Whether you use Final Cut Pro, Premiere, or Resolve, video editing is most likely the most intensive use of your machine's graphics card, CPU, and RAM.
So my reason for needing a new laptop is because my laptop crapped out on me during one of my internships. I was archiving about half a tb of footage on Premiere CC and it froze on me 4 times. About an 1-2 hours wasted trying to get my laptop to work again. After one of the workers there left, I used their 'SLOW' mac which had about 2gb of ram and it worked WAAAY better than my computer. Slow on start up but once inside of Premiere it blew right past my computer performance wise. I've never been a fan of macs, but at that moment I started to actually believe that macs are actually better for creative work.
I know it isn't ideal for video editing but it was given to me after my last laptop saw it's final day. And it works just fine for me with MUCH smaller projects.
I currently have the opportunity for a family member to actually buy me a new laptop at the moment but that's around the $900 max range so I found these laptops ONE - TWO that, to my knowledge, should be more than enough to handle my workload for a fraction of the mac price. But if the conversion to mac is fully worth it above all, then I also have the opportunity to borrow some money and be able to slowly pay it back from family, but since I'm not in the best place financially (just graduated from college in december) with a bunch of bills and student loans coming up, I'm not sure if I should commit unless I know for sure it's the better path.
If Macs aren't worth it, I'm going to post to a laptop recommendation sub to see what is the best choice PC wise.
So what should I do? Sorry ahead of time, I know it isn't exactly a filmmaking question. I do have a desktop that works beautifully, but for my internships at these production houses, I need my own laptop.
Edit: I already have a Windows desktop that does me justice, I just need a laptop at the moment.
